Welcome to Murray Main Street!

Located in the Historic Post Office on the court square, Murray Main Street has successfully rehabilitated a historic building downtown, creating two opportunities for economic development. Currently, Murray Main Street has taken on a project of rehabilitating a Victorian house in the historic district, known as the Higgins House.

Deana Wright, certified Main Street Manager, has been with the program over ten years. Serving as the regional manager for Kentucky Main Street, she works with other regional programs assisting in large projects and needs.

Since the inception of Murray Main Street in 1998, over 12.5 million dollars has been invested into historic downtown. Over the years, 186 new jobs were created by in downtown with over 2.6 million dollars of private money being invested. In the historic district, more than 1600 people are employed. Fa├žade improvement programs have totaled over 1.3 million.

The Board of Directors for Murray Main Street consists of community members and pillars of the community from all walks of life. The cooperation of many community organizations such Murray Convention & Visitors Bureau, Chamber of Commerce and Town & Gown add to the success of the program.



City of Murray Tax Moratorium Program

The Tax Moratorium is an economic incentive program providing tax abatement to owners of rehabilitated residential or commercial properties within the City of Murray Historic Overlay District. This incentive is in the form of a five year tax moratorium on city real estate taxes on the rehabilitated portion of the property.

The property must meet certain requirements and the project must be completed within two years from the date of the application approval. This is only for properties within the Murray Historic District which is within the boundary as follows: East to the railroad tracks and West to 7th Street, North to Olive Street and South to Elm Street.

Downtown Development Incentive Grant Program (DIG Program)

Murray Main Street, along with The Murray Bank, is proud to announce the opening cycle of the Downtown Development Incentive Grant Program. This program is available for those who own real property or run a small business in the historic district. The DIG Program will award up to $5,000 annually in increments of up to $1,000 per project.
