Design is one of the most visible aspects of what Murray Main Street does.  The members of the Design committee have taken on many sizable projects over the past three years working toward the goal of preserving, restoring and rehabilitating the downtown area.

Facade grant program:

Murray Main Street serves as the reviewing agency and administrator for the façade grant program.

As a Silver Renaissance Community, we continue to receive economic development incentives and grant funding to enhance our downtown.  We have been able to secure $109,300 in funds for façade improvements in the downtown district.

Murray Main Street continues to work one on one with façade grant applicants to educate them on the importance of historic preservation and to ensure that all work complies with the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for Historic Rehabilitation.

To date, $92, 000 in façade grant money has been expended.  On average, $7,000 has been awarded to each façade applicant.  Each public dollar has leveraged another four local dollars in additional façade improvements which total $345,000 invested in building renovations and rehabilitation.

Another $26,000 in façade funds has been allocated to additional properties in downtown and several more property owners are in the process of applying for façade grant funds.

Downtown Master plan:

Murray Main Street has been instrumental in developing the downtown master plan which helps set the course and direction for both physical improvements and economic initiatives in our commercial district.

Streetscape:

Main Street Murray helped to secure the funding and guide the plan that is currently being implemented in downtown.  The Murray streetscape plan is considered exceptional within the state for its design and pedestrian accessibility.  The Design committee is following through on every detail of streetscape from light poles, light pole banners, benches, plantings and all other elements that are part of streetscape renovations.

National Register District:

Main Street Murray received the nomination of our downtown area to the National Register of Historic Places.  The downtown area is a National Register District.  Property owners in the Murray Commercial Historic District may take advantage of a direct economic incentive by using the 20% Historic Federal Tax Credit available to those in the district.
