Calloway County Kentucky
GEOGRAPHIC PROFILE:
Calloway County covers 384
square miles with a population of 33,000. The terrain varies from
flat high plains to quite rugged hilly areas at the county’s eastern
edge along Kentucky Lake. Principal streams are forks of the Clarks
River and Tennessee River, and flooding occurs mainly along the
agricultural lands adjacent to the Clarks River. An airport with a
5000-foot runway is located at Murray. Major transportation routes
are US 641, KY 121, KY 94 and the WKT Railroad. Pipelines of 30” and
36” size carry natural gas across the county.
UNIQUE FEATURES:
Murray State
University is located in the city of Murray. It has a student
population of 9,800 which inflates the city population during the
school year. Approximately 2,380 students reside in dormitories on
campus and the surrounding campus area include many multi-family
dwellings.
