Promoting downtown Murray to customers, potential
investors, new businesses, visitors, and local citizens is an important
part of Murray Main Street activity. Promoting our downtown,
including events, takes place in an organized fashion on a continual basis
to help ensure that revitalization activities and initiatives take hold,
along with keeping downtown visible to shoppers and tourists.
The publication “Preserve the Past,
Imagine the Future” is produced by the
members of the Promotion
Committee and devoted to the history of our local area. Three
issues have been published each in early fall. They have helped to
spark renewed interest in local history and preservation
Two summers ago, Murray Main Street
began “Saturday Market”. It brings local farmers and crafts people
together to sell their goods and produce on Saturday mornings throughout
the summer months. Downtown is alive and bustling with activity on
Saturday Market days, drawing customers throughout the area.
"Santa and his house" have been back
downtown during the Christmas season thanks to Murray Main Street.
Along with the help from the Murray Rotary Club, we have taken over 600
photos of children with Santa.
"Easter on the Square”. Easter
of April 2001, over 180 children came downtown along with their
parents for an egg hunt and pictures with the Easter Bunny.
We also sponsored the “We’re Cracking up Downtown” retail promotion for
all downtown businesses to help attract shoppers throughout the
streetscape construction period. Throughout construction and through
July 4 downtown shoppers were eligible to win prize packages (average value
$125) sponsored by area businesses.
The
Promotion Committee is setting its sights on a community-wide Christmas
event and a musical concert series in downtown.
Main Street Murray will continue to develop and host downtown activities in
which the entire community can participate. Downtown belongs
to everyone!
